About Senior Advocacy Services
Senior Advocacy Services is a non-profit agency that advocates for the rights and dignity of those experiencing health and aging challenges. We are one agency with two programs.
- Ombudsman Program: The Long-Term Care Ombudsman program is the only federal and state mandated program to advocate for and provide a voice for some 5,000 Sonoma County residents in more than 200 nursing and residential care facilities. In 2016, the Ombudsman program discovered and resolved more than 950 issues, many of which were elder abuse complaints. Your ticket purchase, auction donations or cash donations help ensure their voice will be heard.
- Health Insurance Counseling & Advocacy Program (HICAP): This program provides free, unbiased counseling and advocacy for Medicare beneficiaries in Sonoma, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, and Solano counties. More than 100 highly trained volunteers provide Medicare, health insurance and related health coverage plan information to seniors. In 2016, HICAP volunteers help more than 16,150 seniors make the best healthcare coverage decision to meet their needs. Proceeds from Pick of the Vine will help ensure the HICAP program remains among the best of its kind in the country.
We depend on over 100 volunteers to support the vital services offered free of charge without bias or delineation.
